Neutered cat 'humping' cudly toys! Is this normal?

Hi, I think the title says it all!

Our 7 years old neutered male cat has started 'humping' large cudley toys! Is this normal?

Is there any chance of, fluids? If not I am not too fussed. I figured he should have some fun!

I thought lack of testicles meant lack of fluids and lack of drive, but he seems to have a degree of sex drive! Or am I mis-inerpriting this behaviour?

Poor thing is on a diet at the moment and being picked on by a big black bruiser panther-like local cat, so I figure let him be.

He always starts off by 'massaging' the cuddly with his front paws and then lots of squatting over it and twitching (TMI).....

Not sure I can stop it but should I try, does it matter.

Our old dog was neutered and humped a toy dog on wheels. It says something about where they perceive themselves in the pack. I'm not sur eof this applies to cats though.

cozietoesie · 02/10/2015 19:45

I've been lucky - none of mine have ever been humpers - but some of the other posters seem to have cats disporting themselves over every available surface!

Florriesma · 02/10/2015 19:46

The other cat hasn't got a hot pink collar on has it?

cozietoesie · 02/10/2015 19:46

I better make that 'animals' and not restrict it to 'cats'. Grin

Florriesma not got close enough to see! I think it is unlikely, which part of the UK are you in, pm me!!

North west?

goawayalready · 02/10/2015 20:01

its common when they feel stressed my neutered cat did this when he got put on anti anxiety meds i rang the vet and requested a change they asked why Blush i told them he is humping the baby toys and even my arm im kind of afraid he will try it on with the baby next? they switched it immediately and the behaviour was recorded on the vets database as it was such a random side effect Grin

goawayalready · 02/10/2015 20:02

i should ad try some feliway to soothe the cat a little

lljkk · 02/10/2015 20:16

I have a neutered lap/arm-humper (sigh).

My boy has a fancy for blankets and fluffy dressing gowns Blush

ShowOfHands · 02/10/2015 20:22

One of my boys used to do this. He had a velvet throw which he claimed as his own. Lots of pawing, massaging, drooling and shuddering. I shut him in another room and ignored him when we had guests. The vet just said the urge was strong in this one and that was it. Grin

Italiangreyhound · 02/10/2015 21:24

Florriesma I'm down south so unless s/he has a train pass and study desire to travel it's not them!

I wonder if it is natural but can't imagine how they feel it now.

Thanks all.

He's off again, will close the door and give him space. The bear looks resigned!

That's a relief.

Both my boys do this, with loud, LOUD purring. Little Monsieur started at about 4 months. He was happily shagging away the day after his castration! He drags his "shag bag" into whichever room I'm in, obviously he likes an audience. MCat's calmed down a bit and only does it occasionally.

Your boy sounds quite a "giving" humper, starting by massaging the bear. My 2 just grab it in their jaws and start getting jiggy immediately.

I believe it's a dominance thing, caused by big black bruiser intimidating him.

And no, I've never found any sticky fluids, so I just let them get on with it.

abigamarone · 03/10/2015 23:48

I've always thought the pawing, massaging and drooling were just affection. One of mine does it when I'm wearing a particular dressing gown - you're telling me he'd trying to hump it?

RubbishMantra · 04/10/2015 13:06

Sometimes the massaging is foreplay before the humping, but not always.

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 11/10/2015 23:46

Morph used to hump DS2's 'Bear in the Big Blue house' Enthusiastically!!! He wasn't stressed at all, he just enjoyed it.

However when he used to try and hump my head in the middle of the night I DID object... it seems my hair 'turned him on' and as he was a 22 pound MC it was a tad uncomfortable Blush

He did it all his life. I have always had (neutered) cats but he was the only one with the urge.

(I did eventually get rid of Bear in the Big Blue House though... it seemed... seedy!)

momtothree · 11/10/2015 23:55

This makes me laugh!! My dog once dragged his bed next to mine, and was going for it, making my bed shake Blush .. me and DP hot footed it out and left him to it ..

thecatneuterer · 12/10/2015 00:43

I have one that tries to hump my arm whenever I wear a fluffy top. Grim.
