Cats playing fetch

My 1.5 year old female cat likes to play fetch, or catch with a big hair elastic. She can go on for hours with this. I know its good practice for when she has to catch mice (which she did do recently, and a very good job of it too). But is this normal and do they grow out of it, anyone?

All of my Siamese boys have played fetch and catch so for me it would be normal.

Seniorboy has rather grown out of games in the past year but that timescale gives you a fair amount of time practising your throwing! Grin

My 1 yr old cat likes to play fetch and football with my son Grin.

She also likes to play with next door neighbour's dog.

One of mine loves fetch! She's 3 and been playing it since she was a kitten.

She likes us to hide too so she can come and find us Blush

Oh hide and seek. She seemed to be trying that one, but we weren't sure. We'll have a go tomorrow. Thanks patience

My Siamese does it too...she's 12, terminally ill and arthritic, still plays fetch with a bobble, lol - so not so much with the growing out of it.

My favourite thing to do is halfway through a game, I pop it on my wrist, I've been doing this now for 12 years, she watches me do it and every time goes Shock WTF did the bobble go? She's possibly humouring me because it amuses me no end to be fair, lol.

...She's possibly humouring me...

You get that feeling also at times? Grin

We also play peekaboo type thing outs self as very tragic cat lady where I will hide behind a door, bigcat creeps up to door, I pop out and she sprints off fast as she can, off I hide behind door again, she creeps up to it again and so on :D

My 2 year old DCat also plays fetch. It's super cute Smile

My 3 year old also plays fetch with a tinfoil ball. Better than any retriever dogs we've had. Hide and seek in the garden is a great favourite too.

Fetch with fluffy balls but also receipts here :) crazy kitten

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 24/09/2015 20:06

my first cat was a devil for "fetch!" He particularly liked screwed up paper balls, and he'd often bring a bit of paper over to have it crumpled and thrown.

He also LOVED safeway shopping bags, the BIG brown ones, we'd leave them on the floor and he would run full pelt across the room into the bag, sometimes he'd run about the house, front half in the bag back half running like crazy, and other times he would just keep running into the bag until his crazy little face ripped a hole and poked out the corner :o :o

Bogburglar99 · 25/09/2015 09:25

BogBastardKitten likes to play football with you with those small jingly balls. He's a Siberian which is described as 'dog like'!

My kitten is now stealing money from DP pockets... I'm £5 up so far!

Justgetknitting · 25/09/2015 22:46

Need to train to get the bigger notes :D

bigbadbarry · 25/09/2015 22:47

One of mine plays fetch with sweetie wrappers. He can hear a quality street from the other end of the house.
