What can't a cat eat.

title says it all.

My kitten is eating all spiders in site, I don't have any spiders or daddy long legs or moths in sight. She either kills or eats them or brings them dead to me as 'presents'

Also she got into the food waste bin munching on cooked chicken I just put in ( since removed)

Any how is there a list of foods that is a complete no - no

Mainly milk and onion family like garlic, chives, lillies and obviously onions.

PiperIsTerrysChoclateOrange · 18/09/2015 21:42

How about chocolate as DC only eat a little and leave it hanging around

Would be surprised to see a cat eat chocolate tbh Grin

Didn't realise onions were a no no Blush as sure my cats have had some left over onion gravy and not had any ill effects! Will not let them have it in future though.

My girl cats eats all insects and feathers, she is a weirdo though Wink

Chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs.

Biggest thing is lillies, all parts of the lily are toxic and can kill a cat within a hour or so. If a cat ingests it they need immediate vet treatment (usually fluid or alcohol drip) to prevent kidney failure - this is expensive in hours (£300) out of hours even more so please never risk it and never have lillies in your house or garden.

Bogburglar99 · 18/09/2015 21:52

BogBastardKitten is also merrily ridding the house of spiders and it doesn't seem to be doing him any harm. While eating out of the bin is not ideal, most cats would sell their soul for cooked chicken - never with cooked bones in though as they can splinter.

Decorative cellophane ribbon I can report is a bad idea - BBK had a series of monitoring visits to the vets after that one. I didn't know before but string like items are a real one to watch.

RedNailPolish101 · 19/09/2015 18:01

Onion & lillies are awful for cats - my beloved cat who thinks he is a dog spent four days at the vets being forced charcoal after eating a Lilly petal... He's obsessed with plants and I had them locked away and he heard me open the door and ran in and them ate a petal, little toad was not happy with what happened next but is an alive ratbag :)

Lonecatwithkitten · 19/09/2015 18:16

Lilies, onions and garlic as previously mentioned.??Large numbers of household plants are not good.??In the garden anti-freeze, slug bait, mouse poison and rat poison.??Chewing gum can be a problem.??Most common reasons for exploratory surgery for foreign body is sewing thread, needles and pins.??Never underestimate what your cat may eat.

Wearyheadedlady · 20/09/2015 23:20

yes, I was told chocolate is like poison to cats, as are most other human foods. stick to kibble and wet food and fish.

catzpyjamas · 20/09/2015 23:23

There's a list here

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/09/2015 23:30

I had no idea about onions, I've often let mine have leftover onion gravy, or shepherd's pie with onions, I won't do it again.
I know about lilies which is a shame as I love them, but won't take the risk of having them in the house.

I've just watched MCat eat some peas that were left over from my paella. He'd also gobbled a small bit of pepper before I noticed what he was doing. (I know peppers are out of bounds.)

Funny creature, usually the only human food he goes mental for is mayonnaise or tuna. He ate all the peas with total relish, and licked the bowl clean. Confused He's getting a tad portly actually, he's prone to comfort eating. Will have to keep an eye on him.

catzpyjamas · 22/09/2015 07:34

Hey Mantra, maybe he's just trying to get his 5 a day? Better than lying on the couch pigging out on dreamies.Smile

Hope you're doing ok.

RubbishMantra · 22/09/2015 17:08

Thanks catz. Some days are better than others. MCat would totally sit about all day eating Dreamies, in grubby Y fronts. But perhaps paired with a maroon smoking jacket?

catzpyjamas · 22/09/2015 21:50

For Mantra Grin
