I think Boycat is very poorly

He's 14+, always been a bossy git. Last two weeks he seems to have lost weight I was away for 6days and really noticed it. But he was still eating, drinking,using litter tray.

I was planning a vet trip for the end of the week. But we've been out tonight, got back any he's like a different cat. He's ignored us coming in (never heard off) and is just flat. His breathing doesn't seem laboured and he ok been picked up, doesn't seem to be in pain, he's just flat.

I'm waiting for the vet to get back to me. But I have a very bad feeling in the pit of my stomach.

I have a great deal of respect for people's understanding of their own animals and their behaviour. Is it an OOH vet you've contacted?

Yeah still waiting on vet. Saying that he seems to have perked up a bit and has come for cuddles but his purring sounds different. More high pitched than normal, but he's head butting me for attention too so i don't think it's a pain thing.

All very odd

Sorry - laptop playing up so I've had to come onto the App. ????I'd guess the OOH vet will advise to take him to his regular practice tomorrow. Would you be able to advance your planned visit?

At vets now. He's very not impressed. OH is being a shit. I know he scared too but no need to take it out on me.

Good news. They think it's only an infection. A bad one but still.

She was a bit concerned about the weight loss and his sugars are a bit high. So once the antibiotics kick in needs to be checked for diabeties. Bad infections can give a false high.

But so far assuming antibiotics kick in,the news is good.

Got home having spent nearly another £100 at the vets only to be ignored and the shouted at for food…and not not that food the other one…so a bit more himselfGrin

Well it's all fun in our house. . .

I got his table down him no problem yesterday, as he didn't know what was coming, and then his Metacam, which he likes.

This morning, no bloody way, we tried the hiding in food etc, so we had to do the towel version and it did take two of us.

Tomorrow, I'm home alone...........

Still his general feistyness is returning so that's good.

And he's lording it over GirlCat 'cause he's getting 'special' treats. So we're well on the way back, thank God

Seniorboy won't take pills and that's that. (And he's so elderly that we're as worried about him popping his clogs if we try it as about him having an infection.) He just has a long lasting AB shot which he doesn't mind at all.

Good that your lad's feistiness is returning, though. Smile

You'll still be keeping an eye on him, though? (I think you said he was to have some test once the ABs had kicked in?)

Oh yes. We're trying to get a wee sample from him. He's taking huge joy in outwitting us.

But if we can't get a sample this way it will be a more intrusive method which I really don't want him to have to go through.

But equally I don't want him to have untreated Diabeties…

Seniorboy has a litter tray so I just stick a saucer under his backside when he pees which makes life very easy indeed. (Unless he crosses his legs. I swear he develops a smug grin on his face at such times.)

BIG battle of wills still going on.

We need the sample but vet doesn't want him to hold on too long, which is what he's doing, git (honestly I'm just glad hes back to his normal PIA self).

But if we don't get one this way we'll have to look at other less pleasant methods

The vet's proposing a tranquiliser and a quick catheter? In his particular circumstances, I might well agree myself.

How long has it been since you know for certain that he peed? (Even crossing his legs wouldn't have lasted since Sunday, though, I'd have thought.) How are you trying to collect it?

So to update. Vet manually expressed the wee.

I didn't see, nor do I want to even imagine…saying that he didn't look too annoyed on his return.

Anyway he's now been formally diagnosised with diabeties. So wee samples are going to be a common feature.

Sigh. …why do we both have to be so bolshy?
