Cat has adopted us

I know nothing at all about cats but one has arrived extremely thin and very old but very friendly and used to being handled. Had visitor who said it hadn't eaten in a while so we fed it. Found it a blanket and now its asleep

What do I do now? Have posted on local Facebook page and will take to vets to see if microchipped. But if it's not then what then? Do I need to get it vaccinated? What do I feed it? Where can it sleep?

Definitely go to the vet to check micro-chipping. It may have wandered too far & got lost. My old cat did that and was missing for 3 weeks before the person whose shed she had taken as her new home took her to the vets. By which time I had hunted all neighbours' garages, called & called, put up posters etc etc. She had just gone too far - about 10 roads away in a housing estate, and couldn't find her way home again.

You could also take a photo & put up posters saying you have found a cat.

It does sound as though this is someone's pet. I hope you find the owner.

If not, all a cat need is food, clean water, somewhere to sleep (like you've done), and cuddles if it's a lap cat type of cat.

Oh, ask vet re vaccinations. And possibly insurance if the owner can't be found

Dont give too much away in the facebook ad, if anyone comes forwards they must have photos to prove it's theirs.

Yes be wary of people responding to FB. It's much safer to go by microchip (if the cat has one). Keep feeding it and caring for it. The vet will be able to give you the correct advice.
