Fostering in a spare room when you have another cat?

I'm hoping someone has done this...

My adult cat doesn't get along with other cats.

I do have a spare room and would love to be able to volunteer for a local cat charity to foster a mother cat with kittens.

Do you think it would be too stressful for my own cat i.e. she would know there is another cat in the spare room? I wouldn't want to do it if it was stressful for her. Otherwise I have the space and time and willingness, and local charities are always desperate for foster homes for kits.

Kittens kittens kittens... please say it might be possible?

Of course it's possible. Even if your cats knows they're there, as long as they don't come face to face it shouldn't stress her out too much.

I need to get some work done in the house first and use the spare room for temporary storage but will then get in touch with the charity.

hi i foster on a regular basis for yorkshire cat rescue,

i keep the mom and kittens in the spare room with the door shut till the kittens get to around 4 weeks and go in several times a day to give attention and feed,

after 4 weeks the kittens get too active to keep in one room so i let my cats outside and let the kittens have free run of the upstairs and lounge i keep the kitchen door shut, at about 6 weeks they can run round with my cats present gets them used to other cats

my cats dont bother going near the kitten room

whichever charity you get in touch with will give you lots of advice on what to do and what not to do and believe me all the cat rescues are inundated with cats and kittens at the moment ,

one way of doing it is to start fostering with an older kitten say around 5 weeks so its a short stay, and work your way up to moms and kittens like i did, you might find after one foster that its not for you because you have to be tough to give them back to the rescue, or you might love it and carry on
