Our cat seems down in the dumps

I grant you that sounds mad!

We've had her since March (cats protection told us she was 1yo but I reckon more like 8/9mo tops)

She's been a lively kitten if not extremely vocal about anything and everything!! and spends a good 6 or so hours outside per day...there's other local cats that she seems to get on with as long as they're not in our garden...then she fights with them but one cat does tend to bully the others

Last week or two she just seems fed up...she's eating as usual but is hard work to get her to play with toys etc and is sleeping more and her coat isn't as shiny...she just seems "off"

Can cats be depressed?!

We lost our beloved boy back in March to anti freeze and I'm having cat anxiety over everything with this one

It could be an infection if she's sleeping more. Our cat had had a bite on his tail which you couldn't see but the vet found it on examination. Does she show any signs of pain? Ours hissed when picked up in a certain way which gave me a clue that all wasn't right. He was also sleeping a lot and not wanting to play. The vet found he had a temperature and he was given antibiotics.

A year or more back, Seniorboy was down in the dumps - he sort of withdrew into himself - although he's ever so much older than your girl. I worked out that he was sore a lot of the time and that was sorted.

Your girl won't have his arthritis but I think I'd still get her a quick vet check if that's possible - owners' appreciations of behavioural changes in cats are often a good indication for vets that something just may be up. It would ease your mind, anyway.

I agree with cozie check with vet - my old cat once she was REALLY down wouldn't move at all (turned out she couldn't eat AND an infection).

sometimes it can be due to another cat scaring them outside. or they've been attacked (not a visible wound).

Thanks all, was planning to take her next week but she's come back this morning with a really odd eye-looks like there may be something in it and she doesn't want to open it or I guess it could be something really bad having a minor panic

Our vets is only open for two hours this afternoon-they've got no appointments left but I'm going to ring and plead

You can always do emergency vet but costly.

If you've got a Pets at Home near you their vets are open on Saturdays

I'm with Zasman IHope. I think they open today. And 2 branches not far from you. Hope things improve
