Bringing home a kitten from a European holiday.

We are currently camping in the dordogne. On the first day we were 'adopted' by a ginger and white kitten. He's about 16 weeks old and seems in good health. There are actually two kittens here but the other one has obviously found herself another family. We've not been feeding them of anything but are always in our tent. I woke up with the g+w one curled up in the crook of my knee this morning.

This kitten is really lovely and I'm tempted to look on to what it would take to being him home. I have two cats already, what's another one? It kind of feels like fate. The site owners have said that they are "just strays" and don't seem bothered about them in the slightest. I've seen several dead kittens by the side of the roads too.

Wwyd? Am I stupid to even consider it?

We are about 40km south of Sarlat. Last year was unusually crap weather-wise - warm (not hot) and fairly wet; we watched a stage of Tour de France in persistent rain. This year has been great (hot and dry) up until last Saturday when the rain & thunderstorms started. It is always so shitty when you only have a couple of weeks or so and the weather is bad. Selfishly I quite welcome some rain as I don't have to water my plants (have been on drought warning!). Hope it hasn't put you off too much.

No it hasn't put me off. Of the regions I've been to in France this area is by far the most beautiful, I feel like the landscapes feed my soul and I love the history. It'd just be nicer seeing it all with a bit of warmth though! Lucky you for living here??

I'm working on dh wrt the cat :)

Fingers & paws crossed here for your kitten Methe Smile

Both kittens seem to have disappeared as of yesterday morning. I would imagine that means someone else has taken them home. The kids miss them but tbh I breathed a big sigh of relief! I hope they are going to have lovely lives as family pets :)

It wasn't me, honest guv! Hope you're enjoying the sunshine - we're just off for a picnic by a lake.

aah I hope they've gone to a loving home somewhere.

I still remember a cat that adopted DP and I in Fuerteventura about 18 years ago (pre-DC) - he was a young tiny, skinny black cat with huge feet that were just out of proportion with the rest of him. He really became part of our lives whilst there.

I'm not recommending or condoning this, but I had a vet who backdated the vaccination certificate for me when I was travelling within Europe years ago.

There are almost certainly kennels/cattery facilities at Calais where you can leave the cat for 21 days.
