Poorly cat on lap

I think our cat has been in a fight and now feeling poorly as he's slept a lot the last two days. He has a scab on his face Sad . We've had him 6 wks or so. He's a rescue and this evening he's asleep on my lap for the last 90 mins. I can't possibly move, only the 4th time he's sat on lap. Like a poorly child. I hope he's ok! Sad We're off to the vets tomorrow Sad Sad

This has happened to our cats a few times after a fight. He's probably picked up an infection from a fight wound. The vet may will give an antibiotic jab which will work like magic to pep him up!

Thanks for your reply. There is a dominant cat around who fights with all the other cats in the neighbourhood. He's pedigree and tough!! I know it takes 2 cats of course but always seem to hear them fighting in our cats environ, pedigree lives round the other corner and should stay there haha! This cat also comes in through other cats' flaps and 18 months ago I returned from work to find him sitting on a shelf glaring at me Envy. (This was when we had our old now departed cat.) He's been hanging around a lot the last few weeks. We have a microchip flap now but our new cat is too scared to use it except when it's propped open. He's never had a flap before. Training is needed! Can't wait to get to the vet now and get him sorted out

Good luck to him - and to you on the flap training. Smile

Ah thanks. .do you think you can tell cats have a temp the same as children? He seems warm. This boy has def become like an extra child!

How did he get on?

PeanutButterOnly · 19/08/2015 22:04

Ah thanks for asking, only just saw your message. He had had a bite on his tail so got antibiotics. Luckily no abscess followed and he's fine again now!

That's good - and a lover not a fighter. Is he staying inside a lot?

PeanutButterOnly · 20/08/2015 21:55

Haha yes. He was leaving the scene. He seems to be staying near to home and likes being indoors a lot

Peanut the only way I found out when my cat had a temperature was when his nose was warm and even then the other times the vet took it with a thermometer (I had no idea) - I think the indignity of having a thermometer jabbed up his bottom AND antibiotics AND injections meant the cat hated me at that time (after a 'fight' too).
