DoofusCat didn't come home this evening. I can hear him in next doors conservatory, miaowing.

They have a cat, and a cat flap. I assume the cat flap is set to go in only, otherwise he would get out.

I could lift the fence panel, sneak across the garden and try and push the cat flap up to get him out. But then I risk the neighbours waking up and thinking they have a burglar.
On the flipside, they may be away overnight (they would have mentioned it if they were going away for longer) as I haven't seen cat since 2pm.

You need to go and knock the door or phone them, don't you? Hope you get on well with them. Our cat got stuck in the neighbour's car. Neighbour was not impressed. Cats can be so clever in one minute and so stupid the next.

It's just so late! They are my landlords so I really don't want to piss them off by waking them at nearly midnight. Saying that, his miaowing resembles a fog horn so that might do it...

There's water in there, it's where they keep it for their cat. Honestly... Cats.

Difficult choice but I think I'd still at least let them know he's there. Can you text them?

I would risk sneaking, if they catch you just apologise and say you didn't want to wake them?

Id leave it until the morning ,he's not going to come to any harm overnight , unless you think he will do some damage to the conservatory .

I'd wake them up - they're clearly cat people. (And I'd take them a nice bottle of something tomorrow evening for the trouble.)

Cats will drive you crazy.

I've looked down on the conservatory from my bedroom window, and the connecting door is open so he has the run of the house, access to the litter tray in there.
He's such a muppet.
I don't think he'll do any damage, tbh I think I made it worse by calling him, he was probably asleep until then.
Am going to try them first thing in the morning, and go into the garden of they aren't there.
He's always doing stuff like this, he's a cat of very little brain...

There are no lights on, and they tend to go to bed quite early (but up early too). However they have all manner of outside lights that will go nuts if I sneak around in the garden so no way I won't wake them (and probably end up knocked out by a flying projectile when they assume I'm a burglar).

Personally I would have knocked. I'm a cat lover and in the same situation I would rather someone woke me than worried all night.

Yes, I got him back. I woke up early and he was on the garden table waiting for me to let him in
Spoke to the neighbour (who want away after all) and he said he heard miaowing in the early hours and got up - found the bugger asleep in the bathroom, miaowing in his sleep!

He's fine, and hopefully leant his lesson about wandering into other people's houses. Which of course he hasn't.
