Kittens?

So tonight I went into the garden specifically to cuddle a neighbour's gorgeous cat! I can't cope for long without a cat.
Just to be clear I won't feed, invite in or steal gorgeous ginger boy!!
We only lost our old girl a couple of weeks ago but I'm thinking ahead.
Kittens or am I nuts!?
Our previous cats were 2 when we got them. So what do I need to know? (I saw a thread here recently saying kittens need keeping in for months.)
Feeding?
Litter training?
It all seems so out of my comfort zone!
Oh and we are also looking at getting a dog! Aargh! I must need my head read!
Advice?

Kittens, you need to get a pair; they'll entertain each other and you'll get bitten and scratched less. They will bite and scratch, it's perfectly natural kitten behaviour. They will also shred your curtains and soft furnishings, wallpaper... They generally litter-train themselves, and you can feed them on commercial kitten food, though they will educate you to their other preferences by nicking it off your plate.

I've just arranged to collect a little ginger boy on the 15th August. I've got two cats and three dogs already. I am clearly quite mad! Can't wait though, its been a crappy few months and a little bundle of happiness is required.

You can't have one cat! True fact! Our previous cats were mum and son.
They did shred a bit but I'd expect lots more from kittens. Isn't it true they can't retract their claws when little?

Oh every don't say that! My DD would kill for a ginger kitten! I have no idea why she is obsessed with that particular colour.
I like black cats and ginger cats and tabby cats and black and white cats and ........

I'm sold on older cats since Seniorboy came to live with me - and I've had plenty kittens to compare with. Mature cats have a sort of wise calm about them most of the time. I'd head to the nearest rescue - or its website. Smile

Oh don't worry Cozie. It'll be rescue. I thought I wanted a Siamese but realised I just want a cat! Blush
I'm sure when it comes down to it we will have no choice. Our previous cats certainly chose us and we had little say over whether to be their owners slaves and minions or not!
