Does Dcat see DS as a sibling?

Cat is a year old. He was got as Ds's cat at 8 weeks (ds is 10) so from the start DS was cuddling him, playing with him, feeding him etc. now the cat will go to him for cuddles but not me or other DS. Also, DS(10) is the only one he does play fighting with. He will pounce on his feet or hands and they'll engage in this play wrestle that DS finds hilarious. Even if the cat is lying quietly on the sofa, as soon as he hears DS' voice he goes into play mode and will be all over DS. He doesnt do that for anyone else.

So does he think DS is his sibling or parent or something? Or are the rest of us just crap at being cat friends?

He has chosen his human and stuff the rest of you. My man cat chose DP over me even though I'm the one who rescued him and gave him all the attention in the first place. Little girl cat chose me.
They are strange creatures

They are indeed! Its the play fighting that has me asking because ive owned lots of cats over the years and never seen a cat playfight with a human, just other cats. This is our first indoor cat though so perhaps thats has limited his options wrt playmates!

Our Dcat always sits on me, and never anyone else. She follows me from room to room, and out into the garden. If she's allowed in the bedroom, she always sits on my side of the bed.

I think the play fighting will reduce as Dcat gets older - 1 is still only a teenager in human terms.

I think that cats know perfectly well who is a human and who is a cat - like Aphie, I think he's just chosen his 'person'.

You've been lucky, actually. Despite DS attending to all of his needs, he could have chosen another person - there's no gainsaying that - and I wouldn't fancy explaining to a 10 year old why the cat preferred someone else. Thank your lucky stars!

When I lived at home we had a gorgeous black cat called Sooty. Mum used to feed her and attend to her every whim but it was always me she sat with. Mum insisted she just liked the chair we shared but when we swapped she followed me!

Mum wasn't happy but I was Sooty's human! (And that was despite me pretending not to like cats. My cover was blown when Mum found me on the flat extension roof picking Sooty up so she didn't have to climb in the window!)
