The litter tray

Surgical staple removal

My cat had an operation almost 2 weeks ago and the wound on his leg was closed with staples. He is going back to the vet for his checkup this afternoon and I am hoping that the staples will be coming out.

Does anyone know how they do this, do they need to anesthetise or can the staples just be whipped out quite quickly? I did ask the receptionist but she wasn't sure and the Vet was in surgery.

They just whip out stitches, so I'd imagine staples are the same?

I'm hoping so!

He won't need putting to sleep - my cat had hers removed a few weeks ago and it only took a few minutes.

That's good to know, he is a calm cat even at the Vets so should be OK then. At least I will hopefully be able to take the buster collar off, he hates being confined to a cage but he hates being in a cage AND wearing a collar even more!

Oh bless him. Mine had the collar for two weeks and spent those two weeks skulking on the corner of the sofa glaring at me!

We have a special staple remover, dead easy no need for any sedation. At least as quick as sutures sometimes quicker.

Well the stairwells are out, took literally 2 minutes. The bad news is that the vet doesn't think that his knee is healing as it should, he can feel a lump and swelling. Poor Barney had has to stay there overnight ready for yet another xray and MRI scan tomorrow, depending on the results of these he is likely to need a further op. Meaning more staples and more time wearing the dreaded collar Sad

STAPLES are out, not the stairwells Grin
