Stupid cat won't stop fighting

Despite the fact he is middle aged, despite the fact that he only has ONE EYE because he lost the other in a fight, despite the fact all the other cats round here are massive and he is not.

We're frequently at the vats for antibotics as he always has an infected bite. Can't get insurance as unemployed and I've used a lot of my savings already getting him treated - am eligible for assisted PDSA treatment but the centre is too far away

He's got another bite inside his ear, it's infected. I can feel his glands are up. He is purring, eating, but shaking his head a lot. I've bathed it in a saline and draining it (GROSS ) - any more I can do or will it be another trip to the vets at nearly a hundred quid? He seems happy and he's had worse - how can I help him?

Is there a cheaper vet nearby?. Could he be a house cat?.

I've called Cats Protection to see if they can advise but haven't heard back yet. He's eating, and doesn't have a temperature - of course if I thought he was becoming more uncomfortable I will take him to vets - just wondering if there is a way you can treat minor injuries in stupid cats who won't stop looking for trouble.

Re: House cat. No, he can open the back door with his paws and when he's been kept in in the past (when he first arrived from the rescue, after vets visits for a few days) he was miserable and howled by the back door. He likes to sunbathe, usually stays close to home.

It may be worth ringing PDSA in your area to ask if they have a vet closer to you that will provide treatment. The clinic then claims the cost back from the PDSA. That used to be the case anyway.

Insurance companies don't require that you be employed. I think mine costs around £18pcm with Petplan, but there's loads more that are cheaper.
