Cat breath

To put it bluntly, H has breath that could fell an elephant! He's been checked by the vet and apparently he has a tiny bit of gingivitis but nothing that they would put him though a general anaesthetic for at the moment (his previous vet said the same). He's around 10 years old and in good health, only eats James Wellbeloved dry food and has access to fresh water in the kitchen and and he also has a bowl in the garden.

Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing it? Thanks in advance.

I don't know, his diet seems OK. Dry food is supposed to help with plaque on the teeth.

In any case, I have to recommend Logic toothpaste Grin Smile

Given his age, what checks did your vet carry out on him at his most recent MOT, Pink ? And did the vet really check his teeth or just lift a lip back?

Much to his disgust he was poked and prodded all over (although he was spared the indignity of having his temperature taken!) and she did open his mouth and look in, not just role his his gums back. He doesn't seem in any discomfort and eats his food without any problems.

This may be an almost unanswerable and TMI question, Pink, but does his nasty breath have any defining characteristic? (ie what does it smell of?)

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 18/06/2015 22:36

I've been having a think about that Cozie and I csnt really think of anything in particular. The only thing I will say is his biscuits smell pretty nasty when they aree served up so I'm wondering if it could be his food. I'm reluctant to change it though as he's such a fussy eater!
