New kitten eating litter?!

Hi I got a kitten today, fairly small but the pet shop said he is 9 weeks.
He keeps eating the litter?! Is this normal?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kittens will eat ANYTHING.

Don't use the clay/fullers earth type clumping stuff. Replace it with the sawdust pellets or World's Best.

Have you booked him into the vet for his first inoculation and health check? It's really important to do that ASAP, pet shops aren't known for taking care of kittens too well. Are you in the UK?

He's booked In for Monday for health check etc.
I'll grab some of that litter thank you very much.
