whats up with my Tom cat

out cat is just over a year old. Iv notices when he goes to for a wee on his litter tray he sits for ages and it goes on for a while when he gets off he still has wee dripping out his bum for a while so he drips over the floor and his paws.

other things we have noticed when he eats his breakfast he seems to throw it back up?
and while I was at work yesterday dh said he had runny poos as well? do I need to take him to the vets? he seems fine still going out and playing xxx

Is he neutered and what do you feed him?

Is he throwing up his breakfast all the time? The occasional sick - possibly from eating too quickly because he's hungry after the nighttime - might be unexceptional but if he's doing it a lot, I'd be real edgy.

I doubt the two things are related. The worrying things is sitting for ages on a litter tray, which normally indicates crystals in the urine/blocked bladder, which is very serious indeed. How long has this been going on for? If it's fairly recent then you need an emergency vet appointment in my opinion.

There might be a connection, if the bowel is uncomfortable either due to constipation or the runs, the cat may have a problem with emptying the bladder.

Sometimes runny poo is a symptom of constipation, if there is impacted faeces, the liquid poo will pass through around it and the solid stuff will stay stuck.

The bladder and bowel are close together so discomfort in the bowel can cause discomfort in the bladder and might be what you are seeing.

It might also be a UTI.

A vet will be able to feel the intestines for any blockage and either give Katalax, a micro enema like Micralax, or a wash out under sedation if there is need for it. Dry food can cause this, as can a build up of fur in the intestines or digestive tract.

Vomiting is often a symptom of constipation as well as furball but I wouldn't take chances with it as it can lead to more serious problems like megacolon or a build up of fur in the intestines. (Just so you know for future problems).

Yes, I'd get him checked out asap for crystals in his urine. It sounds like the urethra may be blocked.
It can get dangerous very quickly.

thanks ks everyone apprently he was sick again yesterday morning after I went to work. we did think he could be eating his breakfast to quick as he seems such a hungry boy. I'll call the vets today see what they say thank you xxxx

Stinkersmum he is neutered was as soon as we could get him done as lots of cats around this way. he eats wet and has dry food out most of the day for him. xxxx

Defo go to the vet and check for crystals. Sometimes dry food can cause this if they don't take enough water. Poor boy. Hope he is ok.
