Cat tail caught in door

To be more accurate, DH caught our big cats tail in the door. He thinks it was quite hard and she reacted very badly to it, understandably! She hissed and ran away a bit but quickly came back for love when called and had been fine since. No crying or bleeding.

She was hanging her tail weird in the middle but it seems nearly normal - it's hard to tell when you are looking for it though!

She has let us touch it without complaint but pulls away a bit near the base - not where it was caught.

Do you think she's ok?

Tails can be chancy things and if she had a bad dunt, there's the distinct possibility of it being broken. I'd vet her.

If it were me I would definitely vet, if only to ease my mind.

Bear in mind, cats are absolute experts in masking pain. From what you say (tail hanging weird) I'd think injury.

I'd actually be edgy as well about her pulling away when you touch her near the base of the tail. If you think about the way cats behave, they might well 'wrench' themselves away from things that hurt or trap them so although she was caught mid-tail, she could have hurt the base in that second's instinctive reaction to being caught.

As Mantra said, the vet would ease your mind, I think.

Tail injuries definitely go wrong even with rapid treatment they can require amputation. Without rapid treatment they can potentially risk the whole cat.

All ok, just have to keep an eye on her. Nothing seems broken, at worst is bruised. She is fine being touched and fussed so hopefully it was just the initial shock that made her react that way.
