Jack has a poorly eye

Not sure if it's his virus again or he's poked himself in it.

It is slightly swollen and red, with a bit of third eyelid showing.

What shall I do?

I'd vet him, chockbic. Eye problems always make me edgy because they can go bad so quickly. (Not that his will - but better safe than sorry, eh?)

chockbic · 21/05/2015 13:30

Who knew cat ownership could be so stressful?!

I feel like an anxious mummy, after losing the old girl.

Really want to try and get this sorted, rather than he keep being ill.

A trip to the vet won't hurt. Respiratory issues manifest themselves through cats eyes so maybe worth the trip just to rule that out.

chockbic · 21/05/2015 13:48

Will probably run him up for a quick check x

Let us know how he gets on ?

Oh, bless the little lad!

He's given you a fair few moments of worry, hasn't he.

Hope the vet visit will allay your worries. x

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/05/2015 17:27

I'd be down the vets, third eyelids aren't meant to be seen are they?.

This is pretty typical Bengal ownership. They are accident prone and have a devil may care attitude to health and safety.

cozietoesie · 22/05/2015 07:44

How is he today?

chockbic · 22/05/2015 09:45

Looks slightly worse, if anything. Poor boy. He's off to vet later.

We have given him the nickname Bonk Eye Blush

If you're lucky he'll get the orange dye, which will give him a fetching David Bowie type appearance for the rest of the day....

Good luck, hope all's well.

cozietoesie · 22/05/2015 10:30

Good luck to him.

RubbishMantra · 22/05/2015 11:24

Good luck at the vet.

chockbic · 22/05/2015 11:36

Thanks everyone Smile

He would love to be David Bowie, I'm sure. Yeah, man.

Reading up on lysine and probiotics. If anyone (vet?) can recommend some and dosage levels?

OP posts:
chockbic · 22/05/2015 17:37

Got some eye ointment for now.

Vet didn't know about preventative measures.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 22/05/2015 19:51

Remind me chockbic - how old is he?

And did the vet say what was wrong with his eye? Did they do any tests?

chockbic · 22/05/2015 22:14

He is nearly a year old, cozie.

Vet says herpes. Or chlymydia. However you spell it.

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 22/05/2015 22:18

Hope the ointment works.

Poor Jack.

I have my very own Jack the cat - he's nearly 18yos, and the best cat ever. Smile

chockbic · 22/05/2015 22:32

Thank you.

Hope your Jack is well.

LynetteScavo · 22/05/2015 22:38

My Jack is amazingly well, thank you. Smile

His sister isn't doing so well....she's sneezing blood again today. I know loads of people will judge me, but I'm choosing not to force medication down her, or take her to the vets. She is happy, all be it blind and mostly deaf. While she is happy, we shall not be visiting the vets, as I know what their advice will be.

In people, I think Chlamydia can be cleared up with antibiotics, but herpes can re-occur...not sure if it's the same in cats.....

chockbic · 22/05/2015 22:43

His eye cream is an antibiotic and he's had antibiotics before. Well, two lots as it goes.

He was unwell just a few weeks ago. Vet says he might be stressed but am not sure why. Got the life of Riley!

Do you know why your other cat is sneezing blood?

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 22/05/2015 22:47

Seniorboy has had that since he was about 18 - a long lasting AB injection clears it up for about 2 months or so. (We don't know what exactly is wrong except it's something to do with the left hand side of his nose, him being too old for an exploratory op to check for - say - a polyp.) A quick AB injection might be worth your vet considering?

cozietoesie · 22/05/2015 22:54

You might find this interesting, Lynette.

RubbishMantra · 25/05/2015 13:34

How's Ripper's bonk eye chock?

Hope the little man's feeling better.

chockbic · 26/05/2015 10:58

Not too bad. Still a bit sore but less red than it was.

See how he goes over the next couple of days. Have got him on lysine and his eye cream.

Thanks for asking Cake
