Tick removal for a novice

Cat's just come in with a tick on the back of his head. I've never removed one before, found some online instructions saying to use tweezers but I'm concerned I could make it worse especially as he's unlikely to stay still.

Would I be best to try tonight to remove it now myself or phone my vet in the morning and see if they can squeeze him in and do it for me?

Is it worth me investing in a tick removing tool for future?

First time cat owner so sorry if these are quite daft questions.

Tick removing tool for future. For now, tweezers as close to the skin as possible and pull v slowly. If it comes out without head then vets tomorrow in case of infection.

Twist the tick anticlockwise and it should come out easier than just pulling.
We have these, they work very well.

Got the big one out whole but then found a tiny one right under his throat which was almost impossible to get to so I think we'll have to see the vet for the rest of that one.

Thanks for recommendation LeChien I've just ordered one now.
