My sisters cat was hit by a car yesterday and she has broken her pelvis, they are going to see if she stabilises today and if not will be pts, they are calling my sister at 1600. That cat is like more than a cat it's everything to her it's never far from home and when my kids stay over at hers she just sits by them whilst there asleep like she's standing guard. I never thought I could be this upset I can't imagine what my sister is going through. The car didn't even stop after they hit it Sad

How awful for all concerned. Broken pelvises can heal. Hoping for good news.

cozietoesie · 12/05/2015 14:46

Poor lass. Fingers crossed for her.

chockbic · 12/05/2015 15:08

Best of luck. They are tough old things Smile

fenneltea · 12/05/2015 16:06

I hope its good news for your sister, poor cat. Sad

ThereIsTooMuchConfusion · 12/05/2015 16:46

She has spoken to the vet. She is more alert than this morning. However they thought no neurological involvement was evident but she now has deranged blood glucose and is panting and think she possible has something neurological going on. They are keeping her comfortable and said she is still tredding water not out of the woods, but hoping she will show signs of improvement by the morning. It's heart breaking that she can't be with someone she knows but hopefully she'll pull through. Didn't know it was possible to be this upset about a cat. Thanks for replies.

She's in the best place.

How is your sister doing, ThereIs ?

ThereIsTooMuchConfusion · 12/05/2015 17:57

She is distraught. I'm going over to hers to stay with her all evening. We are going to watch mind numbing TV like big brother!! To try to distract her a bit, not that it will. It's horrible with all being so up in the air and thinking of the cat all on her own at the vets :-( but like you say she is in the best place.

Awful situation, poor cat. Let's hope she pulls through though. Can you visit her in hospital?.

It's never just a cat.

fenneltea · 12/05/2015 20:09

I hope she's improved by the morning, it looks like it will be a very long night for your sister. I'll be sending positive thoughts for you all. Flowers

Sending positive vibes from here

My cat got hit by a car last year - his pelvis was fractured in multiple places, he had nerve damage and his bladder was haemorrhaging plus he had a nasty head wound

He made a miraculous (if jolly expensive) recovery- the vet had to remove some bits of bone which were irreparable and the rest of his pelvis is screwed together, the nerve damage proved to be temporary and his bladder ended up being fine too - seven months on and you couldn't tell anything had happened at all - the vet did say he'd used up at least 8 of his lives all in one go!

I really hope it's the same from your sister's cat

ThereIsTooMuchConfusion · 12/05/2015 21:57

Basildonbond thanks I read it out to my sister and it made her cry again but in a good way, so lovely to hear that your cat made a full recovery. thank you everyone been reading out the replies and she is very appreciative.

We're currently predicting the the length each housemate is going to last in big brother is the kinda crappy TV watching she needs to take her mind off it. Fingers crossed for the morning.

So sorry to hear about your sister's cat. My cats have never had broken bones but one was very poorly once with a mystery virus & it was horrible having to leave him with the vet & wait for phone updates. I have heard of some really good recoveries from pelvis fractures so I hope this will be another one. Try to distract yourselves with rubbish TV & lots of chocolate and keep us posted Flowers

cozietoesie · 12/05/2015 22:36

If it's any consolation to your sister, I have exceptional hearing so I've occasionally heard the vet nurses at my local practice 'behind the scenes' with the animals in care there. They're so very loving and caring and while I was hearing the odd cat yowl, they sounded more along the lines of 'Oh Woe Is Me - Is My Best Profile Showing to Advantage? '. She'll be being looked after very well indeed. Smile

ThereIsTooMuchConfusion · 13/05/2015 08:42

She died last night Sad

Oh no, I'm so sorry, your poor sister. Sad

I hope once the shock wears off your sister will be able to remember the happier times, they leave such a huge hole in our hearts when we lose them. Flowers

So sorry Sad

I can't believe how many people don't stop, I know there's no legal obligation to, but they know full well that's someone's pet Angry
