My cat has been bitten :(

My cat is usually an indoor boy, but one of the kids must have let him out in the garden, he doesn't normally wander outside the boundaries but this time he must have gone exploring. This afternoon he came back mewing and I picked him up and he yowled and hissed at me. I checked him over and he's got what looks to be a bite wound on his tail :( I've washed the area with hibiscrub (recommended by my friend who is a veterinary nurse) but he's not too keen on me touching it or washing it etc obviously but doesn't seem any different in himself. He's going to be off to the vets as soon as they open tomorrow morning but wondered if anyone has any experience with something like this? I'm pretty gutted as I've had him since a tiny kit as his mum was hit by a car and I've basically been his mum Sad

Don't worry, the vet will sort it out. probably an antibiotic injection and a course of antibiotic tablets. Sounds like a fight with another cat, and not treated they can turn into abcesses.

I use salt water, not strong. A teaspoon in a bowl sloshed over paws etc works.

He probably won't want to go out again for a while.

I second the salt and water. my cat had this - was quite deep but healed nicely. he did have a bald spot on his tail after - scar tissue I guess?

Sparkling Cat wouldn't let me touch her with anything. Sad I know exactly which cat it was too-the local asbo one.

Antibiotics tomorrow or it will end up as an abscess, but he'll be fine.

I'd say it was a dog bite purely for the size of the hole that I can see, I'll try the salt water when I wash it later I'm going to be mauled
He will be off to the vets tomorrow first appointment I can get. Funny how you can get so worried about a little cat who I wasn't supposed to keep once I'd looked after him until 8weeks but fell in love much to dhs dismay as I'd promised no more pets Blush
