My cat is pregnant. What do I need to know?

We adopted a cat 6 months ago from a reputable animal rescue. Before adopting her we were told she was spayed and vaccinated.

A week ago I noticed changes than made me think she was pregnant. I took her to the vet today and she is Sad I'm really disappointed and fuming too.

I know nothing about cats giving birth and taking care of kittens.

Following Olivia's comment - doesn't any one have any helpful, practical advice for the OP? It's like being on speakers corner on this thread. Lots of frothing but nothing useful.

I had nightmares about being pregnant with a litter and losing them after this thread. Terrible nights sleep.

Just wanted to say that while I understand shelters having to abort kittens, I think it strikes a chord with me due to real life events. I don't like the thought of it, nor do I like the thought of having to turn away cats who desperately need help. All it has done is make me want to rescue another two instead of one. I'd do it tomorrow if our house was germ free but the vet said a minimum of two months so I still need to be disinfecting in case our kitten shed a dangerous virus everywhere.

Back to the thread- hesterton has it covered. OP, I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide for mama cat Flowers
