Help! Daft cat ate before spaying surgery

We are having our two spayed today (they are nearly a year old). I took away their food at 9pm last night as instructed by the vet. But woke up this AM to find one of them had got up on the kitchen side during the night, got into the bread bin and stolen a piece of bread - found a chewed slice on the floor. I don't think they had that much but they definitely ate some of it. What to do?!

Ring your vet and reschedule. Or at least ring the vet for advice, but I think they won't do it today now.

gamerchick · 28/04/2015 08:08

No it's not worth the risk. Just reschedule I agree.

parsnipbob · 28/04/2015 08:08

Bollocks, that is so annoying as I took the day off specially and it's really difficult to get time off in my job! Growl.

Shut them out the kitchen next time. They will raid the bin, find half a sausage under the cooker etc if hungry. One of mine has worked out how to open one of the cupboards and can chew through packets so is a real menace if I need her nil by mouth for anything!

parsnipbob · 28/04/2015 08:12

Shadows I can't as we live in an open plan one bed flat so haven't really got anywhere to put them. Suppose I could shut them in the bathroom :s

Definitely ring your vet and ask for advice. It might be fine and they'll schedule them for a later slot in surgery.

parsnipbob · 28/04/2015 08:16

Soup thanks will do, they open at 9 and we were scheduled for 9.15 so will prob have to drag them down there regardless

The vet will probably cancel, last thing they want is them being sick during the op.

thecatneuterer · 28/04/2015 09:11

In these cases we give them an emetic before surgery so we can go ahead. Phone and ask.

parsnipbob · 28/04/2015 09:14

Thanks for advice everyone, phoned and asked and you were right, cancelled :) never mind, I know to shut them away next time!

Oh that's a bugger. I bet the cats don't even look remorseful.

MSofia22 · 29/02/2020 08:20

My cat is getting neutered tomorrow. My appointment I have to check in at 10:15 am. The Vet advised me not to give him food or water after 10 pm, but I forgot & accidentally gave him food at 11:30 pm. What should I do??

thecatneuterer · 29/02/2020 09:06

Sofia that's not a problem at all. Don't worry

That would have learned them.

I'm sorry, I can't help laughing - cats!
