Really worried about my Cat

One of my cats died on Good Friday & since then his brother has become very withdrawn , he just sits at the top of the cat tree all day every day he is eating & using his litter tray but he just doesn't go out & play or bother with anything
He is usually very playful and loves been in the garden , he and his brother were thick as thieves always together and were never apart so obviously he is missing him.

I have another 3 cats ( his mum and two others) but they don't seem to be as affected by his death .

He seems to have just given up and I'm not sure what I can do to help him

Oh dear cats grieve too.

Not a lot ideas, just lots of cuddles and extra attention. Maybe Feliway might help.

Maybe get him checked by the vet just in case something else going on, my friends cat had to go on some anti depressants once as she became so unhappy!!

I would try and give him some affection or one to one when you can, even if its just sitting next to him and chatting.

I'll get him to the vets next week & will get Dp to try again with him , it's a bit hard when he is at the top of the cat tree as its 8ft tall lol

When my Mum died, Seniorboy went to hide somewhere for many weeks - perhaps as much as a month - to get over her. He was a bonded Siamese and wasn't honestly expected to outlive her because he was an older cat even then but he pulled through, rebonded with me and is still going years later.

Your lad is grieving, it's only a been a week and I think that the fact that he's eating and using his tray shows that he hasn't given up. He's adjusting and it takes some animals longer than others.

I'd go on with your normal day to day business and see how he gets on - big love if he comes to you but I wouldn't seek him out or try to pull him down from his tree etc.

Poor lad, he's really taking it hard isn't he?. Zylkene might take the edge off, it works well with feliway diffusers.

Ultimately though he has to work through it in his own time.

Yes - I agree that he has to work through it. His life is going to be different, his brother having died, and there's nothing you can do about that. It doesn't mean that he can't ever find himself enjoying the new way of things though. Give him some more time.
