We're adopting a cat!

Just had to share - next week - not sure exactly when yet - we're adopting a cat! We have 2 cats and a dog, but this wee cat has been in the rescue since June and needs a home where she can go outside. I'm really hoping she'll settle with the cats and dog. The rescue centre will take her back if she doesn't settle, but I really hope it won't come to that.

Aww, that's lovely. I hope she settles in with you. Poor baby being there so long.

Great news! Is there any particular reason for her being so long in the rescue or has it been just circumstances and rotten luck?

Cozie she's been rehomed once to a family with young children and became a bit grumpy, attacking ankles. Dd is 13 and used to handling cats, so I think we can cope with grumpiness Also she couldn't go out with the other family. I hope she'll settle.

We're going over on Monday to see her

Having said that, she hasn't been grumpy since back at the rescue, so hopefully she just had a problem with small children.

Do you know whether there's any indication that she gets on with other animals? (I realize it's sometimes difficult to tell fully until they're in a 'free range' situation as opposed to cages.)

I asked the rescue that. She hasn't been bothered by the cats around her or by dogs barking. I think we just give it a try and take it slowly. My plan is to pop her in dds room with litter tray, cat bed etc to start with and see how it goes. I've done that in the past with a rescue cat and it worked well. Fingers crossed!

Ah, that's lovely you're taking on a grumpy cat.

The ankle attacks may well have been because the other family couldn't let her out. MCat used to do the same. Something he did to amuse himself during the time he was kept in until he was neutered. He doesn't do it anymore. He's very loving in fact.

His facial expression used to be one of despot-ish disdain. Now he looks at us sort of lovingly.

That's what I'm hoping We live on a quiet residential street in a small village opposite a field, so once she can go out she'll love it.

Well, she's here! We collected her yesterday and she's gorgeous. Currently still residing with my dd in her room before meeting the other pets, but quite happy in there at the moment. She's very cuddly, just wants to be stroked, to play, to curl up on the bed with my dd

She's just having a stroll around the upstairs, while the others are out in the garden, so she can get used to the rooms and feel safe when she finally meets them.

She looks as if she's desperate for a snooze!
