Time for a clipping at the vets?

It's moult time. Morph used to get matted but we were able to trim, use a knot splitter. trim, comb etc, and he was ok. Ophie has a couple of knots but is also trimmable.
Obie however... well he has the longest fur I have ever seen on a Maine Coone.. seriously you could plait it! Over the last two weeks he has turned into a walking matt :( We have groomed (he loves it) and trimmed as much as we can but his chest , round his neck and parts near his bum have turned into solid felt and I simply can't get through it. We have clippers but he freaked at the sound and I don't feel confident enough.

Would it be awful to have him done at the vets? Is it very expensive? I have never had to contemplate it before? (and would a lion cut be very mean :D )?

Is Obie not your orange cat with amazing fur?
If yes YABVU to get a lion cut!
Jokes aside do what you feel right but cat fur takes ages to grow back and from what I heard I does not always grow back the same, so think hard before getting such a drastic cut.

If vets trim claws I guess they can clip knotted fur, but pet groomers can also do it and I don't think it is expensive (A friend of mine talked her DP into getting a long haired cat by promising to always having it cut short Confused so it it probably is pretty cheap)

I was joking about the lion cut don't worry... yes he is the big orange beastie :) But he definitely needs something.. I've had long haired cats my whole life and never seen one matt up like he has..his fur is 4 inches long in many places and across his chest it has just become solid in a matter of days. I will ring a few groomers and see what I can find!
