Tick in my arm :-(

So today I felt what I thought was a skin tag on the underside of my arm. I realised it couldn't be as it felt quite big. Suddenly it started really throbbing so I went and looked in the mirror. A fucking tick. And not a small one either. Cue panic. Stupidly, I yanked the thing out, leaving behind the head and jaws. Nobody could get it out. Had to go to minor injuries, get some anaesthetic on it and get it scalpelled out.
Very horrible. Needless to say, my bedding and clothes are all going on boil washes tonight.

Oh, that sounds horrible for you. We get quite a few from messing around on the moor. I bought some tick removers a couple of years ago and they've been very helpful.

Hope you're not too sure and itchy!

Sore*

Can't be too careful. Poor you, I'd have panicked too.

Yikes!

I found one on my leg once, after I'd been fishing. Luckily it was still tiny and not yet distended. So easy to get it out.

Sorry to revel in others' misery but I'm quite heartened to know it happens to you lot too!
People at work made me feel like an unhygienic fucking leper! Didn't help when the nurse bloke brought in a medical student who sat agog for the whole horrid process. And it doubly didn't help when an older nurse walked past the door and said "ee sorry love, I just couldn't do it, I bloody hate the things!"
Even more embarrassingly, the nurse wasn't happy with the rash so he called the head of infectious diseases (or similar!) at newcastle RVI and gave her my number so she can ring me in a few days time and ensure I'm not dead.
