Getting another cat!

Hi we have a gorgeous 9 month old neutered ginger boy,he's lovely, so friendly and loving, doesn't seem to have an ounce of aggression in him at all, so would it be mad to get another cat? Would this ruin the relationship we have with our boy, I would hate it if he suddenly became aloof or spent most of his time out of the house or became stroppy because we got another one, he's our first cat and so I'm not sure how cats get on together tbh. Any advice please.

I think it really depends from one catto an other. Some have great fun with other cats, some ignores them and some can't stand others.

I'd suggest to get a cat of opposite sex.
Could you foster a cat as a trial?

If he's happy leave him be.

He will be stroppy at first. Doesn't mean to say it won't work out.

We got a kitten when our older cat was about two. There was some hissing and posturing, but they settled down and got on really well afterwards.

To be honest I'm not sure that cats who haven't been kittens together (and even then, it's debatable) are ever happy to have another cat around. As in, I don't think they're like 'yay! a friend!'. On the other hand, most can learn to adjust to a new flatmate, and I do think that a certain amount of begrudging co-dependency develops. My two aren't particular friends, they don't fight but it's not a love affair. But when the chips are down, ie when the Bad Men Do The Building Works Outside, they'll seek eachother out, in a very sly and 'I don't need you I'm just sitting near you it's a coincidence' way, and I suspect they do get some sort of comfort from eachothers presence.

Personally I wouldnt. Your happy, he's happy, what's not to like?.

Thanks for the replies, it's as I thought with mixed responses, think We will stick to one, I was just pondering being a bit selfish wanting another puss cat to cuddle
