Missing since Wednesday night

Our cat has been missing since Wednesday, we've been out calling and put leaflets through doors. A neighbour thought she'd seem him over the other side of the main road so we leafleted around there this morning.

What else can we do? Im absolutley gutted. My logical head says he probably out chasing women ( he hasn't been done - I know, I know, first on my list if he returns) but the emotional side says something has happened to him.

We just went and looked at a cat someone had found dead that sounded like him but it wasn't him. Its just stirred up all my emotions again and I feel so upset.

It's horrid. Mine went missing completely out of character but turned up 9 days later (Thinner with a cut leg, we think trapped in a garage) So things I did: leaflets in local shops, houses and at local vets. Empty contents of Hoover on front and back step. Contact council they have a dept that would collect deceased animals from road. Contact pet log. Lost and found section of newspaper. Local Facebook groups. Go looking at night when it's quieter and rattle some treats. Hope you have some good news soon Thanks

Hope he returns to you soon op. I posted several weeks ago with a similar thing but it was hours not days and I was frantic so I feel your distress. Will keep fingers crossed for you ThanksThanks

WalkingThePlank · 07/03/2015 17:29

Just wanted to come and hold your hand as our cat sent missing a few weeks ago but luckily came back. You'll get lots of good advice and it sounds like you've done the right thing. Could you put it on Twitter and Facebook?

chockbic · 07/03/2015 17:43

Ours would go off for a jaunt, then return with a: where's the food at? look on their faces.

Fingers crossed for yours.

BlackHillsofDakota · 07/03/2015 17:44

Thanks so much, we have just been out again and trekked what feels like miles shaking treats! I also went and called next to all the garages in the block in case he is trapped. I've put it on Facebook and on our local site. I feel bereaved, I know that's super dramatic but it's how I feel Sad thanks for all the suggestions, why should I empty Hoover on the doorstep? For the scent?

You could try a torch when dark falls to catch shining eyes.

It is scary when they go off, the little tikes!

ragged · 07/03/2015 18:24

oh dear, how old is he?

firstposts · 07/03/2015 18:27

Yes, I was frantically googling at the time and I saw that emptying the Hoover was another way of helping them find they're way home. Going out in the dark is better as the ambient noise is less and they are more likely to hear you. I forget the percentages but the odds are that they are close by. Don't feel bad that it feels like grief, it is. I was flagging down bin men and sobbing in the printers. I honestly never thought I would see him again.. But I did. Hope it works out.

BlackHillsofDakota · 07/03/2015 18:31

I'm off to empty the Hoover outside the front door, neighbours are going to think I'm barmy! Dh has gone out now as it is dark and taken a torch with him.

thecatneuterer · 07/03/2015 18:44

Oh dear. Unfortunately males can smell a female in heat from over half a mile away. And this is a time for females to be in heat. The problem is that the males often go so far chasing the scent that they get lost (or run over crossing roads). That's why the majority of strays are unneutered males.

Hopefully he'll come back. As soon as he does get him done, and chipped, otherwise you will lose him for good.

In a way, the fact that he hasn't been done should give you some sort of hope in that there is a good reason for him to have gone missing - and the dead at the side of a road/locked in somewhere scenario is less likely.

I would also do posters on trees over a large radius from your house, as he could have gone quite a long way.

Good luck.

BlackHillsofDakota · 07/03/2015 18:49

I realise I totally under estimated the repercussions of him not being neutered. We didn't not get him done on purpose just hadn't got round to it and I will regret it forever if he doesn't come back.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but always a fraction too late to be useful. There could still be a happy ending yet Smile

fenneltea · 08/03/2015 08:03

Try posting his details on the Animal Search UK and Cat Aware websites, the more publicity the better. I hope he comes home soon.

Fluffycloudland77 · 08/03/2015 13:35

Have you phoned all the vets? Phone ALL of them in a 5 mile radius.

They'll assume he's a stray due to the Pom Pom situation.

When you neuter they can microchip him too.

Good luck.

BlackHillsofDakota · 08/03/2015 14:15

I'm going to phone the vets tomorrow first thing. Been out and out posters up this afternoon. My dd is distraught.

Any luck op?

Keeping my fingers crossed for good news Thanks

BlackHillsofDakota · 09/03/2015 18:42

No news yet, got a phone call saying someone had seen a cat looking like him in field behind his house but no sign when we went down there. Thanks for asking Flowers

I hope you have some news soon. My male cat went walkabout for a few days last March - he was 7 months & had been neutered but was still feisty & very adventurous. We did all the things suggested by previous posters, it helped to keep my mind occupied as it was very difficult to stop crying at times! Good luck.

passmetheginbottle · 10/03/2015 12:34

Thinking of you Flowers

BlackHillsofDakota · 10/03/2015 16:29

Thank you, slight glimmer of hope, dh spoke to a lady on the farm across the fields behind her house. A cat matching his description has been hanging around their house as her cat is on heat. She is going to try and catch him or at least get a photo. I don't want to get my hopes up but it's a possible.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 10/03/2015 16:33

Fingers crossed. Shall you be going over there?

BlackHillsofDakota · 10/03/2015 16:54

Yes dh was there today and I'm going when I finish work. Going to shake the dreamies!

GRW · 10/03/2015 17:11

Good luck, I hope you find him.

susiedaisy · 10/03/2015 17:14

Good luck op.
