Am I worrying unnecessarily?

DC3 is a week old and I am so worried about our cat smothering/squashing her. Everytime I leave the room I am taking the baby with me just in case.

The cat has shown no signs of aggression or stress at her arrival and has done nothing more than sniff her and sit in her vacant baby bouncer.

Am I being ridiculous to think this could happen???

Yes.

How many kids have been killed by a cat? I can't think of any. That said, a young baby shouldn't be left unattended with any animal. My dm remembers a baby being killed by two ferrets 40+ years ago.

Congratulations on your new dd.

I agree with Fluffy.
I had 3 cats when had my baby. None of them done this.
Cats soon become wise to the fact that v small person = noise and disgusting smells and will steer clear!
Congrats on your DD.
