New kitten... advice please.

Got my kitten home around 3pm. He met the kids (kept them at a distance as he is nervous) he didn't eat until about 30 mins ago when the kids went to bed which is understandable.

But he hasn't been to the loo yet. Was told he wad litter trained but he just lays down each time I put him in the tray. Should I just persevere doing that? And taking him out if he lays down?

TIA

As long as he knows where the the litter tray is, he will use it when he's ready. I would just leave him alone to find his feet a bit. Also make sure he knows where his food & water bowls are, and make sure he's got a cosy bed to retreat to. I would try to ensure he has a quiet room of his own at first if possible and then he can venture out in his own time, gradually, to explore further & get to know you all.

Good luck Smile

Keep cool. You only got him yesterday afternoon - he didn't eat anything until after teatime - and his insides are likely to be all discombobulated with the huge change to his life. He knows what his tray is for and that's the main thing.

Are you keeping it clear of waste so that if he wants a poo it's ready for him?

Why did I read insides like cabbage?

Once he starts, you'll be wishing he stopped Wink

"Why did I read insides like cabbage?"

Because your mind moves in mysterious ways Chock Grin

But as kittens, they seem to like hanging out in their litter trays, even falling asleep in it.

Has he had a poo yet Pengting?

Pengting · 06/02/2015 20:36

Yes he has pooped! Hurrah Grin

He is hanging about in his tray alot. Keeps trying to sleep in there.

Have you got him a bed? Wink

He is probably just finding his feet with all the new coming and goings. My boy cat hid under the sofa for the first few days when we bought him home as a kitten. I thought he was going to be really unsociable and skittish but after a few days he decided we were alright after all and was fine! My girl cat walked in at 8 weeks old like she owned the place Grin total opposite personalities!!

Oh and kitten pictures are mandatory on these threads don't ya know Wink

cozietoesie · 06/02/2015 21:12

Yay! Grin

(He's probably very proud of himself which is why he's hanging around - but maybe put a cardboard box nearby with an old fleece or something similar in it to tempt him.)
