Cat flap in window - crazy or good idea?

At the moment we dont have a cat flap. KittyMoln either sit waiting on the front window ledge and comes in when we open the window (or goes in and outas he pleases if the window if left open) or jumps up on the garden table and looks through the widow in the back and gets let in through the back door, as the window isn't openable.

We're doing a big of renovation in the house (slow progress as we're doing it outselves) there's and to be a totally new (openable) window and different positioned backdoor put in. The idea is to have a cat flap in the new back door. However I thoughg it might make more sense if hecouldcome in and out thw window (as doors are more expensive to replace than the double glazed window planes should it ever come to be we don't want a car flap anymore )

I'm somewhat pro getting a cat flap because currently I leave him inside when wego out because I don't like the idea of him not being able to get in for food etc

DH thinks a cat flap in the window is mental but they can be put in glass doors can't they? Or is it bonkers?

Why not? As long as he can access the window easily from outside. Is there a window that he uses already when it's open?

We have ours in a glass door so don't see what the difference is with a window.

We have one, he climbs up on the kitchen worktop to get out. Not ideal, but like you, I figured it was easier and cheaper to replace a small pane of glass that the whole back door.

We did have to put a little platform on the outside of the window though, as the ledge is quite small and I thought he might not be able to jump up to get in. It looks really funny - like a little diving board!

We have a cat flap in a window- what's more, as the window is about 2 metres from the ground, we have a plank of wood that forms a sloping path up to the flap. I have 2 cats, and they've not learned any sort of queuing etiquette if one is trying to exit whilst the other one is waiting to come in!

Dh didn't want one in the glass door and knocked some bricks out the wall instead so that's an option. We have a tunnel now with a flap either end.

No it's not the same window as he used now. The window doesn't exist yet, but I do expect it to have a ledge the same as the front window he does use at the moment so I'm expecting that he'll be able to access it.

Am interested in this as I too am considering something similar.Is it mad or on the other hand,why not?It would suit our house layout far better than a door catflap iyswim.
