Kitten and building works

I wonder if you can help me.

We would really like a kitten/cat however are about to undertake about a years worth of building works (we will be living in the house while it happens).

Is it silly for me to think about buying a kitten before/during the works due to doors being open by the builders or do you think if we're careful about shutting her/him in a room we will be fine?

Or is it cruel for them to live through the noise?

I haven't had a car since I was a little girl so am a novice.

I think you should finish your building work first. A friend's cat recently started licking himself so much that he developed bald patches. The vet reckons it was due to the stress of having strange people in the house installing new carpets and cupboards.

we put off getting another cat due to building works. its very loud, very dusty, very disruptive. my dcs couldn't stand the noise, so we'd go out. where could a kitten go???

We got kittens then discovered our house needed a lot of work. Don't do it!!!

One of the builders got a bit emotional after a "rat" popped its head out of the floorboards he was nailing and he missed it with his hammer and the "rat" miaowed.

The whole thing was messy chaotic drama with stress poo everywhere.
