What can cats eat????

Been laid up with man flu so totally ran out of their food. I've got some liver in the freezer will they eat it? And if so raw or cooked? TIA

cooked liver would be ok, you can poach it in the oven in a bit of water if you cover the dish.

Cooked as an occasional treat. As a one off it will be okay, but regular consumption of liver can cause hypervitaminosis A which s a very painful condition.

Why can't they eat raw liver? They eat raw birds & move. Mine always enjoys the turkey giblets raw. In fact, he's been very cross ever since that they aren't provided every day

Raw chicken. Tuna.

They can eat raw liver, but if they're not used to it it'll give pretty scary results when it comes out the other end.

Fish or chicken is easier to digest.

Thank you fluffy I'll poach it in the morning. Everyone They're really not used to raw food, luckily they aren't hunters so Deffo gonna cook it, the way I'm feeling sickness and exploding bottoms would just about finish me off lol. Thanks all

Mine likes tuna, but apart from that she won't eat anything other than cat food. She'd rather go without for a day or two. (This also happens when I change brand from time to time).
She does love meat juices or gravy though (without salt). Any meat needs to be really soft for her.

they can have egg too if you are desperate rawor cooked..... tinned sardines.

Ours will eat anything with garlic tomato and basil in! Also cold boiled spuds seem to be of interest to them . We always have a couple of cans of tuna hidden in the cupboard in case we run out of cat food (no one likes it except me). They get lots of scraps from the table, so plenty of chicken, fish and mince.

Does anyone else find that their cats won't eat pork in any form?

Ours will eat pork - particularly if it's chinese style.

But then boy cat likes to munch on poppadums and mango chutney

You could pad out a meal with a little bit of rice - ours like cooked chicken with lots and lots of jelly (add water to chicken thighs/legs/wings and "roast") with a wee bit of rice.

In a pinch, scrambled egg with a bit of cooked rice is a good solution. Or raw egg if they'll go for it, some won't.

Liver is totally fine as an occasional thing. Tuna and/or sardines also totally fine.

Any meat, basically!

Oh got couple of eggs I'll do scrabbled egg for breakfast and liver for tea then hopefully be feeling ok wed to go to local shop for some tins. Thanks all

Have you got any tinned fish like tuna or pilchards etc in your cupboards? Always a big hit with cats! Can someone go to shop for you? Hope you feel better soon.

Our greedy moggy has been known to scavenge bacon, scrambled egg, rice pudding, tuna pasta, yogurt, cheese and custard on occasion with no ill effects.

The advice in the raw feeding community with egg is generally that cats can have an entire cooked egg, but if you give it raw then just give the yolk - the raw egg white has an enzyme in it that isn't good for cats.

My boys love egg yolks as a treat - I just separate the yolks out, put in a bowl and give them a poke with a fork, the cats rush over to lick them up. They're a very nutritionally compact food as well, since the yolk is pretty much what builds a baby chick.

Mine likes ham, chicken, tuna, prawns and turkey.

She also likes twiglets the marmite flavored kind she wrestled one off me earlier and took it under the sofa ate the lot

Juxa garlic (and onions) is toxic to cats so be careful with that one..

Woah, thank you Micah. I didn't know that, and assumed that because they really circled when we were eating anything with that combination, ready to clean our lates for us, that they just liked it. Never occurred to me any of it would be bad for them, especially not that it could be toxic. (It's the tomato, garlic, basil combination they seem to be most interested in. Onions they'll leave.)
