Help...6 month old kitten ripping off wallpaper

He's just turned 6 months, in the past week he has started scratching at the wallpaper and then going back to pull chunks of it off. Some is jyst level with him, some he is jumping up to get it.
He has lots of toys, food and attention but I dont know what to do to make him stop.

Can anyone help please?

He needs a nice tall scratching post in front of the wall where he likes to scratch. If he doesn't immediately know what to do with it, try getting him to chase a piece of string along the floor and drag it up the post and he might figure it out then.

He has a scratching post that he had been using and still does up to a point.
He has ripped the paper in 8 different parts of the hall. From the top of the stairs to the bottom hall. I've moved as much as I can furniture and box wise to hide it but he just starts somewhere else.
Tonight I was stood next to him and he jumped up to get at it

Do you use Feliway plug ins? That might help.

No, I hadn't heard of them but just googled it and will get some tomorrow to see if that helps.

hmmmm. Sounds like he's discovered a fun new game. I'd do a 'grrr NO' or an 'OI' every time I saw him doing it and see if that helps.

One of ours loves paper - particularly toilet rolls. You could perhaps try giving him one of those to see if it works as a substitute? Not sure if it would though.

Laser pen? Our 6 month old girl loves to bite the living hell out of everything but even the jingle of the pens chain is enough to distract her.

Yes he's neutered.
Today was the first time he has done it whilst standing next to me, all the other times was either when we have been out or have been in another room so have only found it later on.
I dont want to have to shut him in one room when we go out or keep him in the same room as us as that feels cruel but I cant keep letting him do this.

Go for aversion method. Sprinkle chilli powder or eucalyptus oil liberally where you don't want puss to go.

Garlic puree works too. Are the claws long and need clipping?

Mine used to do this all the time, he loved wallpaper for some reason no matter how many scratching things he had. I've given up now and removed the wallpaper and painted.

Is it the same spot he keeps going for? If it is put some tin foil (shiny side facing out) over the spot and leave it for a few days. Cats absolutely hate it, it's a fab deterrent for scratchers!

Cats are persistent when they find something they like to do, no matter how much we thwart them.

I agree with Beanie re. the painted walls instead.
