Cats won't come out from under cupboard!

We adopted two 5 year old cats yesterday - one of the DC in their previous home was severely allergic, so they had to be rehomed. When we got them out of the cat carriers, they ran under the cupboards in the utility room (I say that but it is just a room where all the junk and recycling lives) and have been there for over 24 hours so far! They have food, water and a litter tray. At least one of them has been out to use the litter tray and eat food. Is this normal and is there else we could/should do? We have adopted cats before, but the hiding under the bed stage was much shorter - how long will they stay under there I wonder?

Feeling Sad that they are so scared.

They will come out when they feel comfortable.
Leave them to their own devices and ignore them. Go about life as normal although I'd hold off on using a hoover.

Grin that shouldn't be a problem, thank you.
