What time do you feed your cats their tea?

Mine are normally fed 4.30-5pm and I have been trying to make it nearer five as I get in with DS at 4.28 and the cats are under my feet. BoyCat and GirlCat are clearly geniuses and can tell time as they just followed me into the kitchen at 3.15 so know it is nearly time. I haven't fed them as for those who remember FABCat will know she started getting tea earlier and began asking at 2.30pm!!

Am I mean to not just feed them now or am I right to make them wait until 5pm? In school holidays I still make them wait as I don't want them stressed when I am back doing the school run. BoyCat has been known to strop off if tea isn't produced when he wants and I have just caught him with his head in the good waste caddy .

They have breakfast around 7am and supper around 10pm.

Mine has a pouch of wet food in the morning and has a bowl of biscuits available constantly.

He doesn't get any 'tea' unless you count him licking our dinner plates when we've finished.

I don't have set times for my cat - when the dish is empty I put more in (but it is dry food and she doesn't eat it that quickly)

Pointlesscat is fed the minute DH walks through the door at 4.45. He will try and persuade me to feed him sooner but if he had his tea too early then he wakes us up at 5am to ask for breakfast so yes, I'd make them wait until 5!
As he is always fed when DH comes home he also associates the front door opening with food and so harasses anyone who visits the house!

Breakfast at about 07.30, lunch at 12.00, tea at 18.00, pudding tea () at 20.00 and supper at 22.00. Fairly fixed times so it's just as well I work from home.

Make them wait! They'll adjust after a day or two of moaning.

H has breakfast when we get up which is around 7 during the week and whenever we wake up at weekends. Dinner is usually around 7 in the evening but we will give him a top up at lunchtime if he's hungry.

Breakfast at 7, dinner at 7, as many biscuits as they feel like in between. Cats who take one mouthfull and then walk away from a meal, leaving it for the others do not get seconds on my watch (dh is a soft touch on this)

Mine have wet food twice a day and a small amount of biscuits at supper. That is from when we had to call FABCat down from her Guarding The Children On The Landing Post and we have just carried on with BoyCat and GirlCat even though they don't do guarding .

We can't leave food down all the time as they would gorge. They were abandoned in a house for goodness knows how long so are still in a state of when will I be fed I think and usually scoff their food immediately and would eat all day long if offered. In the first few days they were here GirlCat ate a piece of cooked broccoli and some cheese at abandoning owners.

BC is a fine specimen but GC is a little podgy. She won't have it that she is though.

PSE mine would say they were hungry all the time!!!

The cats have had three fights and are now hanging around in the kitchen..

I put dry food out each morning and that's available all day. Wet food 2-3 times a day depending on when I'm in/get round to it/she asks (SoulCat is old and finicky now and doesn't always eat very much so if she's asking for more I usually give it)

about their previous treatment, that's horrible.

SagaCat starts meowing at me to feed him about 7ish. It's the only time he meows out of hunger. It actually helps me because he acts as my living alarm clock to get the DCs up and ready for school!

we can't free feed as Fatcat is, well, fat, so they both have set meal times

The kitten gets a bit of wet food in the morning because he likes it, Fatcat will only eat biscuits.

She has hers about 7pm-a pouch of food plus dry food.

I top up the dry in the morning if she has ignored the pouch- for a rescue she is such a fussy eater.

Is it not normal for cats to eat cheese? Our cat loves it as did my previous kitty. Our cat also likes broccoli, but she is a bit weird

They have biscuits down all day, but wet food for breakfast when I get up (6.45 during the week, at some point before 9 at the weekend) and for tea when I get in from work about 6.45pm during the week. Weekends it can be any time from 4pm to 9pm depending on what we're up to because I'm a bad cat servant and pretend to have a life outside of the house. If it was up to DH, they would just have biscuits, it was me who started the rod for my own back feeding wet food.

Do you hear that T-cat who doesn't like to eat the biscuits? DH who you love mostest in the world would just leave you to have dry food if it weren't for me!

Dinner is at 7pm. I am in the kitchen cooking dinner at that time and she rarely comes in. However, the moment the 6.30 comedy on radio 4 finishes, she is in and demands dinner.

The concept of 'biscuits on offer all day' is one my greedy he-cat would approve of. He is eating me out of house and home. He has a pouch at about 7.30, another one at 5-6pm (and he's trying to work that back) and dry biscuits at lunchtime, but everything I put down for him is gone! in the flash of an eye. He's like a dog.

If he's a greedy pig, I think I'd try giving him his dry in a forage toy, Me - even if it's just a cheap bought kibble ball. It would stave off any incipient boredom with the winter weather coming upon us fast.

I do this this sometimes using a slim cat ball, as mine is an indoor cat so she needs keeping active. It's a great idea but it can be a PITA if you accidentally kick it across the room and send an arc of biscuits and treats across the carpet. I bet this is her cunning ploy to get the food out with minimal effort.

My 6 month old kitten has 3 pouches a day breakfast around 7.30am

Dinner around 5-5.30pm
Supper around 10-13.30pm
Dry biscuits out all day that he nibbles on.
