Ugh working in rescue is depressing sometimes. 5 week old kittens given away on facebook. The smallest been only 300grams. Luckily someone got them and contacted the rescue.

Then we have Jellybean and jelly tot who where handed in to a local vet who handed them over to us. They are both syringe fed as our queens would not accept them.

We also have our 5 week old swimmer kitten who was born with deformed front legs and yesterday had them set in a brace to try correct them.

Kitten season is not even in full swing here in Aus and we are already at capacity.

Keep on going through the depression, cjd. (I know you shall, dispiriting though it is sometimes.)

What is the prognosis like for Swimmer Kitten?

cjdamoo · 28/10/2014 21:13

Our vet is hopeful he shall regain some use of his legs which were bent completely in so it looked like he had folded arms. He also has a heart murmur which he may grow out of so its a case of wait and see do physio 8 times a day.

I guess im just over peoples irresponsibility. We have the companions animal act here that states all cats and dogs must be micro chipped before sale or gift regardless of age and should not be sold or gifted till at least 8 weeks. I spent yesterday communicating with the owners of the local buy and sell pages on facebook only to be told to go fuck myself by one group and that they were only fucking cats. I guess until the law in enforced we are fighting a losing battle.

We are offering a scheme where if you discover your cat is pregnant or has kittens we will provide you with food litter worm and flea treatment whatever you need and when the kittens are weaned we will take them for responsible rehoming get them chipped spayed and vaccinated. We will also get mum spayed for $50 or free if you are struggling. Trying to break the cycle head on.

I don't know how you and the other rescue workers who post maintain your resolve in the face of that sort of irresponsibility. (I think I'd probably be stomping and swearing, wasting all my energy.)

Let us know how little Swimmer gets on if you find out?
