To get cats back end shaved??

Hello - bit of a weird one

Would I be crazy to get my cats back end shaved? I've seen "lion cuts" that the groomers do but ideally wouldn't want him so bald. He's long haired and deaf, don't know if being deaf will affect his balance or something but he is clumsy and literally every time he goes to the litterbox he comes out with his tail and bum and back legs covered in poo! Then drags it around my house and never grooms that area :(

I am always chasing after him with a cloth trying to clean him but because the fur is so long it just gets it all tangled and seems to spread the poo around, I can't successfully clean it off him unless he has a bath which for his and my sake I don't want to do every day

This is literally every time he uses the litterbox that it happens. I have 2 other cats who are short haired and fine. All are strictly indoor. Does it make sense to take him to a groomer to get him shaved somehow? If he gets poo on his skin or short hair it can be easy cleaned at least but it seems to catch on the long fur as it comes out Blush blergh!

I feel like I'm overreacting by getting him shaved but really don't want poo all over the house multiple times a day and myself when I pick him up! As I said he is indoor and the heating is always on so don't think he would be cold from it, please tell me I'm not crazy for wanting to do this?! He's 5 months old and it's been like this since I got him at 2 months

Awe that cant be nice for him, my long haired cat gets matted as she is quite feral so we struggle to groom her and she goes to the vet to be sedated and shaved.

Find a pet groomer and get his bum area shaved, if you are brave enough you can probably learn to do it yourself.

Was going to attempt it myself today but didn't dare haha. Think I will ask if I can stay to watch the groomer. He's deaf so won't be scared of the shaving noises etc, should be able to whack treats in his mouth and don't think he will care. I just felt crazy for considering shaving him haha!

I have a teenage long haired cat, with no teeth pretty so she can't groom herself properly. I never get a special appointment for a bum trim but if I'm there for any other reason I will ask. Sometimes if I'm feeling brave I'll attack it myself with the scissors, just a little trim is enough to stop the dangleberries. I have to do it a bit at a time while she's eating though, if she caught me she'd rip my face off Grin

By 'there' I mean at the vets btw.

JubJubBirds · 26/10/2014 21:33

There is a hygiene cut he could have. It's basically a trim of his trousers. Bless him.

My cat once had a bit of poo stuck on her bum fur. It was dangling around when she walked and freaked her the fuck out! She spent the following five minutes alternating between zooming around the room trying to get away from it and hiding completely still under the table. It finally flung off and hit DP hahahaha mid panic.

She's gotten over no though. DP hasn't

Hubblez · 26/10/2014 21:36

Hahaha your poor DP being attacked by flying poo balls! I will book my cat in to the groomer tomorrow then - just wanted to double check that I was sane before doing it! I tried a sneaky scissor chop at his bum fur when he was eating but was scared of snipping his bits so gave up Grin

Hope his little haircut goes well. Post us a pic when he's all handsome looking! Smile

Booked in for 5pm today for a lion cut! Thought he would look less stupid than just a naked bum but we shall soon see... Bloody expensive though, curse you long fur!

Pics coming later Grin

I look forward to pics of his baldy bum!!

Hubblez · 27/10/2014 19:03

I attached pics of him, apparently he was putting all the way through and trying to play and swiping at everything wanting attention!

Everybody loved him there. They gave him a pretty deep cut though one on his front leg and one on his back :( it was in pets at home so they took him to the vet which is next to the groomer in store and glued his cuts together which I didn't have to pay for, but still had to pay full price for the groom Sad

He didn't seem to mind though he was loving the attention and now the cuts are glued they don't look so bad. I got him this little shirt because I felt bad for him and worried he would be cold haha! He seems to love that too, he's so laid back bless him

He had the lion cut but didn't have much mane, he feels like a cloud though and is so soft. Will be getting just his bum area cut next time though and keeping it trimmed for the future :)

Oh bless him in his little shirt!

Sorry he got cuts, that's awful! But I suppose at least he didn't mind and is a happy chappy.

ClaimedByMe · 27/10/2014 20:49

Awe he is so cute and will feel better for getting rid of the long fur around his bum!!

RubbishMantra · 27/10/2014 21:11

He's lovely, and I'm sure he will feel better without the klingons.

What breed is he?

Hubblez · 27/10/2014 22:12

He's a Maine coon x ragdoll supposedly, and pure white with blue eyes = deaf ! Which I forget nearly all the time as I'm constantly talking to him Blush

I think I remember you posting about his fat belly!

Hasn't he grown into a handsome young lad!
