giving a cat/kitten a new home, where from?

my cat died of old age over a year ago, and as dc are now a bit older I was hoping to get one or maybe two after Christmas. I have 2 dc, 4 and 2. will this present a problem for cat rehoming centres? 4yo remembers our cat and helped care for her in her last days. 2yo ds is a bit of a handful.

is this a good idea?? I'm in west London if that helps

A rescue centre ought to know which of their cats seem to be children proof and a mature cat ought to be a better bet than a kitten. (Kittens are always a bit pot-lucky with regard to temperament although raising them the right way helps a lot.)

If you go to the Catchat shelter location page you should be able to find the rescues in your area - but you said that your 2 year old is a 'bit of a handful'? What exactly does that mean and do you think that the time is quite right for you to be considering a new animal?

he'll be 2.5 by the time we are ready to get any pet. and he's just a bit, well, 2ish. over exuberant and learning self control. he's always been very gentle with animals, so far.

its just that some I looked at don't let animals to families with under 4s, made me wonder .....

I can't recommend Celia Hammond (CHAT) enough - they cared about helping us match our family to the right cat and have been so supportive since.
