Won't use the tray for a wee

We got a new boy kitten on Monday - he was one of 5 found in a box by a friend at the side of the road - and is about 5/6 weeks old. He has been using the tray for a poo from the start but 8 times out of 10 will wee on the paper. I know I should be happy it's not the floor but how can I encourage him to do it in the tray.

How often are you cleaning the tray? Some cats are very fussy about using a tray that they consider 'dirty' and it can be difficult to ensure it's right for them given how quickly the two functions sometimes follow each other and their sensitive noses.

Maybe get another tray in? My own old boy has two and uses both as the mood takes him.

Perhaps also the litter isn't to his liking for peeing. What kind are you using?

Get him another tray. My cat has two.

Thanks for replying, we use sophisticat pink as that's what we've always used with our other cat. We do remove any poo as soon as he's done it, he's been a bit better today but will probably get another tray.

(Might be worth also checking with the friend who had him as to what type she was using just in case he has it fixed in his mind that litter comes in one 'flavour' although I know that his history gives cause for all sorts of questions. (It's not impossible that he was brought up at a very early age to use paper - some people do - so he may think he's doing what he's supposed to!))
