My mum insists her cat (she did this with her previous cat too) is my sister, she's quite serious about it.
This pisses me off I mean come on its a Cat! She fully admits she should have had more kids and had (has?) serious empty nest syndrome.
Is this normal cat owner behaviour?

At least the current one is quite friendly, the other one hated me would spend the whole time scowling at me because I was sitting on her seat aka the large armchair that guests use. She was my flipping mum first!

Forgot to add I live far from my family so when I call my mum and she starts talking about my sister I assume she's actually talking about my human one.

Er No - it's not usual at all. (People can get desperately attached to them but they usually have some perspective when it comes to humans.)

Oh dear I was worried she might have gone mad cat lady on me, its not like she's elderly and has limited visitors, she's in her 40's my dad is at home (he's equally soppy about the cat) and has a full time job!
I though it was a joke then the first cat died, it was then I realised she was serious. She feels I should be more interested in the cats life. Hmm

Haha this made me smile :) my mum referred to our cats when we were growing up as our sister/brothers.

Husband and I refer to our two cats as our son and daughter. I'm pregnant with our first baby and we talk to the cats about how they are getting a new baby brother or sister... our kid is going to hate us, isn't s/he?!

Katie lol I'm pregnant too, seriously I'm going to have to out my foot down if she dares to refers to the cat as the Aunt!
