Cat acting strange

My cat is acting really odd. It's quite hard to explain. He'll hop into a room and then stand stock still for 30 seconds staring at the floor, then he'll bunny hop in a circle and stand still as a statue with his back arched staring at the floor again.

He hasn't always been like this, only the past couple of months. It doesn't sound that strange written down, but it's the weirdest thing to watch.

Is this a normal cat thing? Confused

How old is he DH - and is he otherwise healthy as far as you know?

DHandhisgrossfoot · 06/10/2014 21:42

He's 2. He has a flea problem that I'm trying to keep under control. I've tried frontline and Advantage, as well as Bob Martin and Aldi's own, all to no avail. Also tried diatomaceous (sp?) earth. I'm currently flea combing him every day to ease his discomfort. Apart from that nothing that I'm aware of.

That's a lot of different chemicals going into his system.

Why not go to the vet for something prescription only? It'll work better.

girliefriend · 06/10/2014 22:08

You need to speak to the vets re the flea situation, advocate is the only thing that has worked here.

Hard to say if that is a normal cat thing as have yet to meet a normal cat Wink however I think cats see things that aren't visible to humans so it is possible that he is following some pattern or something on the floor

Hassled · 06/10/2014 22:10

What's in your floor - I mean what is he hearing/smelling below the floorboards?

Hassled · 06/10/2014 22:13

I mean - is it possible you have a mouse problem?

cozietoesie · 06/10/2014 22:21

What sort of timescale have you used all those on him? I think I'd have him to the vet for something prescription as Fluffy said - and maybe have him checked over.

ozymandiusking · 06/10/2014 22:24

Ask your Vet to prescribe Stronghold. It works, against fleas ticks, and ear mites.

DHandhisgrossfoot · 06/10/2014 23:17

I've always waited 3 months inbetween. I thought he was maybe seeing ghosts haha! But my other cat is 'normal', calm and placid. Confused

I'll get some of that Stronghold stuff to try.

No mice apart from the ones they bring in from outside!

My neurotic cat does this, on the wooden floor. I think he's trying to catch the knots in the wood... Smile He also stands on the dining table, staring at a blank piece of wall, emitting a very loud, mournful miaow.

It's good that you're going to see a vet about flea treatments - the over the counter ones can do more harm than good, and don't usually work.

I think you should post a photo of your bunny-hopping cat! Grin

I have heard great things about Advocate. A friend swears by it.
