Can we catch the cats' worms?!

Well. We have two cats, who live indoors but do have largely free access to outside and do all of their poos outside. God knows where, we do have a clean litter tray indoors but they prefer to defecate al fresco Smile

Two days ago one cat came back inside and I saw a white, wriggling worm hanging out of her bottom Confused. I bought worming drops and dosed both cats, but Google says some cat worms are the same as human worms!

DD is a toddler and handles the cats a lot, and I'm pregnant. I don't know if that makes a difference. There are no worms in DD's nappies, but would they turn up straight away? And none in my poo Smile

Please help! Do we need worming too?!

I had worms once off our cat, the dr gave me something for it though.

If you can't see them I'd assume you don't have them.

I'd get a prescription strength wormer though, if OTC flea treatments anything to go by it might not be strong enough. Worms can cause hospitalisation in cats.

What you saw are tapeworms humans can not catch cat tapeworm.
Humans can catch cat roundworm ( looks like piece of string) though it is very rare.
A good worming program of at least every 3 months with a good quality prescription wormer has been shown to give good protection to you and your family.

Omg, the dr said I'd got it off the cat!.

Eeeewwww.

I wonder how I got worms?.

Thank you - I'll wait and see if what I've given them has worked before I give them anything else. I don't want to overdose them.

It didn't look like a tapeworm though. It was white, thin, round and not segmented. Urgh.

This is not helping my morning sickness! The cats seem perfectly happy in themselves though, so I'm guessing they've not had them long.

Tapeworm segments look like wriggly grains of rice you rarely see a whole tapeworm unless you look in the stomach.
Roundworms are about 10cm long pieces of string.
