My cat has lost his voice

He's an Arab street cat and normally very vocal but this morning every time he tries to miaow this croaking noise comes out!

Do cats get sore throats from talking too much?

Don't know about that breed but my moggy (who is 15) is queen of the 'silent miaow'. Much of the time she opens her mouth and a little whisper or croak comes out. However, she can do a full on yowl, as she demonstrated at 7am today!

Shuri's an outside cat isn't he? (I'm wondering whether he could have been thieving or hunting something outside and - say - got something stuck in his throat or scratched it from nicking a bone from somewhere.)

Personally, I've never known a cat to get a sore throat just from talking too much. (And I've had a good few who could talk the hind legs off a donkey.)

Hmm cozietosie, you've got me worried now ...

He's not coughing or retching so I don't think he's got anything stuck there but yes, he does go outdoors and is a pretty efficient hunter so may well have scratched his throat somehow

Just a couple of days ago he was yelling so loudly for so long that I jokingly told him he'd lose his voice ... And hey presto, today it's gone ...

His nose has gone very pale (is normally pink) so if he's no better in the morning I'll take him to the vet - argh! the puppy's already booked in tomorrow as he's not well either ..
