Fleas-why can't I get rid of them?

Greetings fellow cat slaves!
I'm having a problem with persistent fleas on one of the cats I am mummy to. Fudge is 12 years old and a short haired domestic moggie. He spends about 23 hours a day asleep and when he wakes up enough to go out side doesn't go further than the end of the garden!
We stronghold him once a month and he wears a flea collar. Every day I find at least 1 flea on him when I comb him with the dc's old nit comb.
Our other cat Hugo who is a 2.5 year old lean mean killing machine who spends most of the day asleep but all night out hunting has never had fleas in his life.
Fudge doesn't seem to scratch or over groom so I don't think the fleas bother him to much,
Any ideas as to how we can get rid of them for good?

Comfortis tablets from your vet, they have the fastest speed of kill compared to any other product on the market and really work. You could also spray your house for instant knock down of fleas but ultimately if you're using Comfortis fleas will die before they can breed so you wont need to use an extra treatment on the environment. As Talk said it's important to treat all cats/dogs in the household.

If you get them a program injection it stops them breeding and infesting the house.

It's £35 twice a year but gives peace of mind. You still need to use advocate every month.

I alternate advocate and front line monthly, boil wash anything that can be. There's a spray called indorex or similar for the carpets etc. btw, the flea collars do nothing and can make them Ill (did to one of mine and to my Mum's cat). Your cats might be less sleepy with it off.

I can't advocate comfortis enough. It's done an amazing job on my boy. Other than that you need to de-flea the house as it isn't just cats they can live on. They die off within 7 days of no blood at all and that includes people. I would personally recommend flea spray around the house preferably with no-one in to allow it to take effect then clean up. That along with tablets should clear the fleas up even if your cat is outdoors.

Hopefully this isn't just useless re-hashed advice for you.

So the indoor cat has the problem. The house is where the problem lies. The fastest most effective solution is to use an adulticide such as advocate, Activyl, Broadline or comfortis. And an environmental product like Indorexx or acclaim.
