First timer. Need some reassurance please

Today my Dsis' cat moved in. Very nervous as I expected so I've kind of left her alone, just took her upstairs to show her where the tap is, showed her the litter tray, food etc and she let me fuss her a tiny bit before taking herself off under my bed.

That's fine but she hasn't eaten anything, or had anything to drink (as far as I can tell, haven't heard her moving about) since she got here at 4.

Is that normal? I didn't expect her to be bounding about or anything but I thought she would have drank at least

I need to chill don't I?

She will be fine, but may keep a low profile for a while until she feels more settled.
Keep her indoors for a while too.
Just curious - why did you show her the tap?

I'm interested in the tap showing too!

Does she have opposable thumbs?

The tap showing is because she drinks from a running tap rather than a bowl and because it's the bathroom tap I wanted to show her where it was, in a house tour type thing

I'd give her a bowl of water as well if only to be going along with. (Just in case she's flummoxed by your tap. It can't hurt.)

Definitely put a water bowl down as it may be some days before she is confident enough to come out!

Maybe approach her with some cat crack (Dreamies) can't hurt so she gets to know that you are her new provider :)

Mine too... only my baby boy ate too many (hoovered up his sister's) and had spectacular squits the next day so he is now rationed!!

I've put some water down for her (using the bowl I had to buy for DS' imaginary dog ) and a little pile of biscuits but not too many cos she is rather, erm, rotund

She's a cat, she will look after herself. Put down some water and food and let her get on with it. They might be bastards, but I've never known a cat starve itself.
