I'm looking for a new cattery.

What should I look for in terms of facilities etc?.

Last time I just chose the nearest ICC approved one but they are fully booked.

It's a real shame that the ICC approved scheme closed although I can understand why it did. Is there any chance that the cattery you normally use can make a recommendation? (I suspect that the cattery owners all know each other fairly well in a limited area.)

(For those reading the thread, here's some ICC guidance on choosing one. )

Shall you be going for webcams this time? (For your DH of course.)

I can't help about catteries unfortunately, but may I recommend cat sitting services? I googled cat sitter and my area and it turned out cheaper than the posh cattery I was considering. I was happy that she wouldn't be stressed out and it was convenient as I didn't have to drop her off and pick her up after the holiday.

Fluffycloudland77 · 29/08/2014 13:50

A cat sitter wouldn't work for fluff cat, he's a big girls blouse who'd run off from them & I like him in over night which isn't so bad when I'm there but it would mean him locked in the utility room for too long.

I'm getting dh to ring every day this time. It's very embarrassing.

I found our lovely cattery by accident when others were full. I just knew by the feel of it you know when you look round a house/school and you just get a feeling?

Owners are very nice, normal people obviously love the cats and are very attentive. You can pick up and collect at any time, no need to make an appointment unless out of their normal opening hours.

They posted a picture of Sparkling Cat on their FB page at DS2's request. I thought that was lovely.

I would say go and look round if there's time. We got Sparkling cat back today from ours, looking all brushed and sleek. Smile

I know what you mean. Oh dear god I'm going to have to talk to people aren't I?.

I will read that guide Cozie thank you.

Yes I am afraid so. I went to one where all the pens had cat names and net curtains with cats on. Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/08/2014 14:24

I've found one. Smaller pen than he's used to but very clean & the other cats looked happy. They live on site too.

The grounds are beautifully maintained so they must spend a lot of time out there gardening etc & there's bird feeders up.

I saw another one that was vile. All the cats looked so sad and it was all indoor so it smelt awful. I can't believe anyone left their cats there. The worst part was that she's got certificates up saying she's licensed.

It was only £1.50 a night cheaper too. One cat had no window so all he'd see is three walls and another cat for his stay.

I'm wondering if I should complain to the council or if its the law that's at fault & she's passed their assessment. Must have been a dog person who assessed them.

Sounds good Fluffy are you relieved? The one Sparkling cat went to has free range chickens about. The cattery lady said Sparkling Cat couldn't believe her eyes. Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/08/2014 17:20

I'm relieved but I want to rescue all the cats in the other cattery and give the owners a piece of my mind.

Chickens sound brilliant!.

I see you have found somewhere quickly, I was going to recommend these www.longcroftcathotel.co.uk

My cats have been to 2 of them, because our usual one was fully booked. I will never leave them anywhere else now.

Fluffycloudland77 · 30/08/2014 20:23

I wish all catteries were like that Pippidoeswhatshewants, I still can't stop thinking about those miserable looking cats.

It's not fair that they are allowed to be kept like that, they're intelligent animals that like stimulation.
