Automatic feeders???

Does anyone have any experience of using automatic feeders? Any recommendations or are they a big no no? We have 1 cat and thinking about trying one for 1 or 2 nights away but don't know anyone who has actually used one which makes me suspicious. Thanks

They are absolutely useless for wet food

I've got one of these

Cheap and cheerful and does the job

We've got one of these:

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B003RKPRYO

It's actually pretty good, never let us down as far as I know. We tend to use it if we go away for a night or two at the weekend, never more than that - although the massive hopper can hold 90 days worth of food!

You can set it to feed up to 3 meals a day at specific times and change the amount dispensed, but the minimum amount is enough for our cat.

The downside of this model is that when it's "on" it always feeds, so you have to turn it off when not in use, but that means you have to reset the clock each time you need to turn it on. This is because it runs on batteries, which is an advantage if you have no sockets nearby.
